Drawing BIG Crowds to the BIG Green
Vacation rentals in Arizona are filling up fast with over 500,000 golf enthusiasts expected in attendance for the Waste Management Phoenix Open, a premiere golf tournament. Annually sporting the largest crowds on the PGA Tour, the Waste Management Phoenix Open (formerly the FBR Open) has gained legendary status. Visitors from all over the globe descend upon Arizona to witness the exciting competition on the big green. Defending champion Kenny Perry and 143 other golfers will compete for $6 million in prize money, through Sunday, February 28th.
Tiger Tales
Nope, you won’t see the World Number One golf player, here. In fact, Tiger hasn’t competed at this tournament since 2001, but fans are rooting for Phil Mickelson, ranked Number Three in the world and a two-time winner of this highly-anticipated golf tournament.
Going Green
Solar-powered trash compactors, recyclable concessions cups and plates and even recyclable materials for signage and other media are part of Waste Management’s efforts to make the big green, well, green.
Green for Charity
Giving back to community is an important element of the tournament: The sponsoring Phoenix Thunderbirds will be adding to the $65 million they already have raised for Arizona charities.
Big Name Entertainment
Entertainers abound: Actor Josh Duhamel, comedian George Lopez, actor Andy Garcia and Scottsdale’s own Alice Cooper will rouse the crowds and get the joint jumpin, all in the name of supporting national and Arizona charities. (Main-stage music starts at 6 pm.)
After-Party-Hearty
After daytime fun, throngs of people head to one place to see and be seen: the Birds Nest party tent, with doors opening at 3:30 pm each day.
