The ArtFest of Scottsdale is an annual event showcasing the work of over 200 artists from around the country and is happening on November 20-21 at the Scottsdale Civic Center Plaza from 10am until 5pm each day. It’s an event that everyone in the Scottsdale area looks forward to as it is a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather, see and buy great art from all over and take in some great live entertainment.
While much of the focus of the festival this year is on a variety of modern art, there are many notable artists that specialize in their own particular style. Walter Reiss, for example, specifically uses clay to create satirical pieces that have both a dark and whimsical feel to them. Another featured artist is Priscilla Draper, who creates 3D pop art paintings that highlight the best of Americana.
If you’re a music lover, Artfest features two stages that will showcase a great group of local and visiting talent. Jazz and blues are a major focus and will undoubtedly provide a great soundtrack to the artwork. Arizona based blues band Shri, which boasts incredibly diverse instrumentation (check out their jazz harpist) will be performing on the East Fountain Stage on November 20th at 2pm. Performing on the West Ampitheatre Stage on both days of the festival is Bad Cactus Brass Band, which is a local favorite that channels an old New Orleans jazz sound. They’ve also been known to get a bit funky now and then (in a good way).
It’s free to park and to attend the event but you’ll most certainly want to purchase arts and crafts so we suggest going to their site and registering to win $100 in Artfest Bucks. All you have to do is fill out a quick survey and it can be used at any of the booths.
