With the cocktail enjoying a resurgence in popularity, local mixologists are hard at work creating some of the most unique drinks in the country. In this list, examine five regional restaurants that are breaking the mold when it comes to gin slinging.

Martini1. “Take Bethany Home” at The Vig. Regardless of the baffling name, this cocktail utilizes fresh, simple ingredients to create a libation that is sure to satisfy. The base is Crop’s brand of 100% organic cucumber infused vodka, which delivers a crisp refreshing kick to the palate. Add to that a watermelon puree, fresh lemon and sweet agave nectar, and you’ve got yourself a one-of-a-kind cocktail.

2.) “Mornin’ Sunshine” at Beckett’s Table. Sometimes the best way to chase a hangover is with a little hair of the dog, and lots of vitamin C. This cocktail starts with a hefty helping of blood orange infused vodka, Cointreau, OJ and lemonade. Oh, and the secret ingredient? Mixed into this drink is a packet of Emergen-C, a vitamin supplement and immune system booster used to replenish vital nutrients in your body.

3.) “Serrano Mango” at Canteen. The jarring, yet enjoyable, juxtaposition of sweet and spicy flavor sensations really sets this cocktail apart. Upon first sip, the very spicy Serrano pepper infused tequila kicks your taste buds into high gear, only to be immediately neutralized by sweet mango and lime juice.

4.) “Chocolate & Espresso Martini” at Seasons 52. In this day and age, desserts aren’t the only thing on the menu that’s deliciously decadent. Enter the Chocolate & Espresso Martini: Van Gough Double Espresso Vodka served up, with a splash of Bailey’s and Godiva Chocolate Liqueur. With a cocktail like this, why not drink dessert?

5.) “Gina’s Ginger Beer” at The Citizen Public House. Innovation can breed some unlikely ingredients when it comes to cocktails. Take for example this interesting concoction that includes an unlikely addition—beer! It starts off innocently enough with a couple shots of Canton Ginger Liqueur, then fresh lemon juice all topped off with some ice cold Pabst Blue Ribbon. Now that’s a winning combination.

Often, a simple beer is just too boring when you’re on vacation. Luckily, Phoenix is full of creative bartenders who are prepared to mix it up when you’re enjoying a night on the town. Just remember to enjoy responsibly.
