ScottsdaleThe Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is the epicenter for all things cultural in the city and surrounding areas. Offering a diverse array of events such as plays, musicals, operas, parties and everything inbetween, the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is a great place to visit while staying in a Westbrook Vacation Rental. Since there’s approximately  200 performances, festivals, and events  produced annually, it would be impossible to cover everything happening at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Instead, take a gander at these 3 must-see shows.

1. Sérgio Mendes- November 5, 2011. As the godfather of contemporary Brazilian music, Mendes has been making listeners shake their rumps since 1961. Over the course of the last 50 years, he has released over 35 albums, won a Grammy, and captivated millions of music lovers. Now, this November, he brings his distinct style of jazz to the city of Scottsdale as he headlines La Gran Fiesta, The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ celebration of Latin and Hispanic culture.

2. The Capitol Steps- November 25 and 26, 2011. The Capitol Steps are a D.C. based group political satirists who claim to have put the “mock” in “democracy.” Larry King gushes, “they’re the best. There’s no one like them, no one in their league.” But don’t take his word for it, visit Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and see for yourself. With the 2011 election season in full swing this November, their performance should be especially entertaining.

3. ARTrageous: An Evening on Broadway. December 3rd. With three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe Awards, Marvin Hamlisch is more than a triple threat. But when he teams up with singer and actress Linda Eder and tenor J. Mark McVey for an evening of Broadway showtunes, this is guarenteed to be a night not to be missed. Be sure to attend this benefit for the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.

There are so many amazing shows at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, it was quite a challenge to whittle this list down to just 3 performances. Be sure to check out SCPA’s official website for a full listing of events.
