With so many Scottsdale attractions to choose from, you might think that planning a fun-filled vacation in Arizona will put some stress on your wallet. Think again. The city of Scottsdale understands that a vacation is all about having fun, and being on a budget shouldn’t prevent you from enjoying all the entertainment, art and culture the area has to offer.

  • Free Summer Concert Series – Head a few miles south of the city of Scottsdale to the Chandler Center for the Arts for a night of free entertainment for the whole family. On August 3, enjoy the bluesy sounds of Firefly, a trio of talented sisters who have shared the stage with Justin Bieber and the Zac Brown Band. On August 17, travel back in time to the era of big band music with Sun Lakes Big Band featuring Joe Carroccio as they recreate the smooth stylings of Frank Sinatra. Tickets are free with a suggested donation.
  • First Friday – On the first Friday of each month, downtown Phoenix proudly showcases its vast art scene. During this free event, over 70 galleries and studios open their doors to display a unique mix of local art exhibits. Free shuttles transport visitors to the different venues. In addition to the art on display, you’ll find live music and even a chance to create your own art. The event lasts from 6-10 p.m. and is sponsored by Artlink Phoenix, a nonprofit organization that promotes art and culture in the Phoenix area.
  • Free Line Dance Lessons – Grab your cowboy boots and a partner and head to one of the most iconic Scottsdale attractions, Handlebar J Restaurant and Saloon, for a night of old-fashioned Western fun. Every Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday at 7 p.m., you can do-si-do and two-step to the sounds of a live country band with the help of the establishment’s free country dance lessons. All that dancing is bound to work up an appetite, so make sure to feast on their famous and authentic Western cuisine while you’re there.

Life is full of investments – new cars, homes or tuition payments, to name a few. Luckily, your vacation to Scottsdale doesn’t need to be such a financial burden. This August, leave your wallet at home and enjoy these awesome Scottsdale attractions with your family on the super-cheap. A vacation, almost by definition, should be stress-free and drama-free, right? Might as well make it free of charge too.
