If you’re like most people, eating healthier is probably one of your New Year’s resolutions. But vacations and resolutions are a little like toothpaste and orange juice – they just don’t go together. So what to do if you’ve planned a January vacation in AZ? There’s no way you’ll ever able to stick to your goals now, you’re probably thinking. Well, think again. There are plenty of healthy Phoenix and Scottsdale dining options that are still decadent enough to be vacation-worthy. Here are our favorites:

  • OC Seven Restaurant & Bar: OC Seven is a part of the athletic complex in the Scottsdale Resort and Athletic Club – and you know a restaurant has to be healthy when it’s actually located in a health club. But don’t expect to dine among sweaty gym patrons – the atmosphere is relaxed, but not too casual. Think low-key country club. Most of the dishes are sort of an Asian-Southwestern fusion – healthy, but not bland. There’s even a “Healthy For Life” menu. And of course there are other options, just in case your fellow diners aren’t as health-conscious as you.
  • Chakra 4 Herb and Tea House: If you take a holistic approach to healthy eating, take a quick drive from Scottsdale to Phoenix and check out Chakra 4 Herb and Tea House. Half herb shop and half vegetarian restaurant, Chakra aims to “nourish your body and soul.” Everything the restaurant serves is local, organic and fresh. Take some of their herbal health teas home with you to keep your chakras balanced when you’re back at the daily grind.
  • Green: Most health experts agree that it’s important to allow yourself to indulge sometimes. Green allows you to do so, but with a bit less guilt. The restaurant serves comfort foods like po’ boy sandwiches, pizza, wings and ice cream. So what’s the health angle here? They’re all vegan, which means all the ingredients are meatless, eggless and dairy-less, and most are local and organic, too. So go to Green and give in to your cravings.

This grab bag of Scottsdale dining options proves that vacations and healthy eating aren’t mutually exclusive. Even better, it also shows us that healthy food and tasty food can be one and the same. Dine at these restaurants and you’ll be able to vacation in AZ without any fear of getting fat.
