Taliesin West. Designed by legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright as a winter home, studio and school, Taliesin West is one of the most renowned architectural achievements in the world. The 620-acre complex was named a National Historic Landmark in 1982 and now serves as the main campus for the school of architecture and the foundation which bear Wright’s name. Wright drafted and designed some of his greatest achievements here, including New York’s Guggenheim Museum.

A number of public tours are offered daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., ranging in price from $10-$60. The “Desert Walk”, a 90-minute journey along the beautiful trails of Taliesin West, can be combined with other tours for discounted admissions. Booking in advance is strongly recommended.

Hotel Valley Ho. Edward Varney, a student of Wright, designed this impeccably restored historic hotel. First opened in 1956, the Valley Ho quickly became a trendy, fashionable spot for Hollywood film stars, athletes and musicians. Celebrities such as Bing Crosby, Janet Leigh, Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman were regulars. The hotel closed in 2001 after an extended period of decline and was nearly demolished before being placed on the Historic Register by the city of Scottsdale. Now fully renovated, the hotel offers a 90-minute “Magical History Tour” by appointment. The price? $19.56 per person, a nod to the year the hotel opened.
