You know, there are a ton of Scottsdale attractions to check out during your vacation in AZ, but as our parents were always so fond of reminding us, money doesn’t grow on trees. If you’re looking for fun things to see and do that won’t put a strain on your wallet, you’ve come to the right town.

Famous public fountain in downtown Scottsdale

Famous public fountain in downtown Scottsdale

Civic Center Mall. This 21-acre space includes the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Center for the Performing Arts. There’s also a library, a lagoon and an outdoor amphitheatre. The lush public square has several fountains and art installations, including Robert Indiana’s famous LOVE sculpture. The museum is free all day on Thursdays and after 5 on the weekends, and the amphitheatre regularly hosts live music and other performances that are open to the public.

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. Open 363 days a year, this unique park features six exhibits, two playgrounds, an arboretum and both train and carousel rides. There’s no admission fee, and a book of 12 tickets (no attraction requires more than two) is only $10. Even without tickets, you can make use of the park’s two playgrounds, check out the new 10,000-square-foot model train building or just enjoy a nice day outside. Every Sunday night from May 5 through July 7, the park will host a free concert series. Children under 13 get in free at the historical train exhibit, and kids under 3 ride the train or carousel free with a paying adult.

Scottsdale ArtWalk. This April, the city’s galleries open their doors to the public every Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. “America’s Original ArtWalk” is one of the most popular Scottsdale attractions, and it’s been a tradition for 30 years now. If you’ve never been on an art walk or “gallery crawl” before, the process is simple. You’ll wander freely through various galleries in the downtown art district at your own pace. There’s plenty of free parking nearby, and you can even catch a trolley or a horse-drawn carriage from the lots. Thanks to an abundance of restaurants and the area’s thriving theater scene, the ArtWalk is a great addition to a night on the town.
