Sure, you could do all the normal travel things – like swimming, shopping and bar hopping – on your vacation in AZ. And you certainly should, because you’ll have plenty of chances when you visit Scottsdale. Still, limiting yourself to just that is boring. You don’t want to be boring, do you? We didn’t think so, and that’s why you’ll want to make sure to do some cooler things while you’re here. You know, the kinds of things you can only do in Arizona.
Create a hybrid Chinese-Mexican meal. Chino Bandido is an example of Scottsdale dining at its weirdest, because this hole-in-the-wall eatery offers both Mexican and Chinese takeout. You can even combine the two types of cuisine in one of their make-your-own dishes. Egg foo young quesadilla anyone? They also offer snickerdoodle pie for desert if you’ve got a serious case of the munchies.
Look at art in a laboratory. Science and art don’t typically go hand-in-hand, but we don’t do things the typical way here in AZ. Artist David Therrien purchased what was once a Phoenix Police Department crime lab and turned it into an art gallery that is criminally cool. It’s called OP-Tic. Stop by and check out the photography, the massive installation pieces and even something called noise art.
Stand inside of an impact crater. There are meteorite craters elsewhere, but few are as cool, as enormous and as well-preserved as ours. Called simply Meteor Crater, it’s an astounding 2.4 miles long and 550 feet deep, and it’s easily accessible from Route 40. If you’re looking for Scottsdale attractions that are good for kids, this is a great one. There’s even a little museum full of space ships and dinosaur bones.
If you’re going to take a vacation in AZ, your vacation should be as “authentically Arizona” as possible, and these three places definitely qualify. If you’ve been to our great state before and have your own favorite, let us know about it in the comment section!
